Abstract

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) is a type of infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) with very fast transmission. The main disturbance of Covid-19 infection is the risk of interference with the respiratory system, so that smokers can be people who have a high risk of developing a severe lung infection. Nicotine in shots increases the expression of the ace-2 receptor and can make lung cells more susceptible to SARS-COV2 infection by increasing its receptor, the ace-2 molecule. The design of this study uses a non-probability sampling method with a purposive sampling technique. Patients with mild degrees were 91 patients (35.7%), patients with moderate degrees were 124 patients (48.6%), and patients with severe degrees were 40 patients (15.7%). From the results of the data analysis above, there is a relationship between smoking and the degree of Covid-19 infection at Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek Year 2020 (p-value=0.002).
