Abstract

Asteatotic eczema is a type of pruritic eczema characterized by dry, cracked and scaly skin. Asteatotic eczema is caused by the loss of essential fatty tissue in skin resulting the formation of fissures looks like cracked porcelain called 'crazing paving'. Asteatotic eczema usually occurs in the elderly population (over 60 years) are closely related to cold and dry climates. Case of asteatotic dermatitis at young age is considered unusual, it can occur if there are pre-existing clinical conditions such as neurological disease or malnutrition. Ms. S 24 years old complaints of black spots and scabs accompanied by itching and constant scratching on the backs of the hands, feet and elbows since 1 month ago. She was seriously ill, stupor and underweight in anthropometric measurements. On dermatological status, macules to hyperpigmented plaques were seen with lichenification of the manus and pedis dextra et sinistra, fissures that gave into pavvy appearance, and dry skin with a positive white dermography test. The general treatment given was in the form of confirmation of the disease, provide information about prognosis and prevention as well as educate to maintain the humidity of skin. The specific treatment is in the form of applicate emollient mixed with topical steroids and oral antihistamines. One week later the skin condition improved, showed by moist skin and pattern of cracks were dissapear.
