Drugs are preparations or a combination of ingredients that are ready to be used to affect or investigate physiological systems or pathological conditions in the context of establishing a diagnosis, prevention, cure, recovery, improvement, health and contraception. Public knowledge about the world of health, especially medicine is still very limited, even though medicine is an ingredient that we can easily find around us. Drugs must always be used correctly in order to provide optimal clinical benefits. Drug storage in the community, if it is not followed by proper knowledge, irrational drug use or inappropriate drug storage methods will occur. Apart from storage, another drug problem is drug disposal. Improper disposal of drugs can be harmful to humans and the environment. Errors in disposing of leftover drugs, spoiled drugs, and expired drugs at households can result in an increase in drug waste which can endanger the environment and health. Based on data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2013, 35.2% of 294,959 households in Indonesia kept medicine for self-medication. Medicines stored in these households included drugs in use (32.1%), leftover drugs (47.0%) and drugs for supplies (42.2%).
