Abstract

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an acid-fast bacillus that can cause tuberculosis infection. This disease often attacks humans, especially the lungs, which is also called pulmonary TB. However, these bacteria can also attack organs other than the lungs, which is also called extrapulmonary TB. It is estimated that a third of the world's population has been infected with this bacterium. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019, tuberculosis is one of the infectious diseases that causes the highest death in the world. The accuracy of the use of anti-tuberculosis drugs in the therapy of tuberculosis patients themselves is assessed based on the accuracy of the indication, the accuracy of the patient, the accuracy of the drug, and the accuracy of the dosage. The results expected in pulmonary TB therapy can be marked by examining the results of bacteriological examination, namely by examining AFB sputum which is carried out at the end of therapy for pulmonary TB patients and/or by the decision of the doctor in charge. The results of this negative AFB bacteriological examination indicate that the patient has recovered from pulmonary TB. The accuracy of the indication, the accuracy of the patient, the accuracy of the drug, and the accuracy of the dosage of anti-tuberculosis drugs and the patient complying with the complete treatment regimen, both the dosage and the duration of treatment are factors that can determine the success of patient treatment.
