Abstract

Rifampicin and isoniazid are the first line treatment of tuberculosis. Long term treatment has caused rifampicin and isoniazid to have hepatotoxic side effects on the liver. Pearl grass effect through mechanism as antioxidants. To determine the effect of ethanol extract of pearl grass on liver histopathology in white rats male Sprague dawley strain induced by rifampicin and isoniazid. This study used 30 rats divided into 5 groups, that control 1 (K1) given aquades, control 2 (K2) without giving pearl, treatments groups 1,2, and 3 given rifampicin and isoniazid 200 mg/kgBB orally followed by pearl grass ethanol extract at successive doses of 200 mg/kgBB, 400 mg/kgBB, 800 mg/kgBB for 14 days. On the 14th days, the rats was terminated and the liver of the rats was taken for microscopic preparation. The average liver damage score obtained was K1=198,16, K2=501,44 P1=501,2, P2=417,6, and P3=394,4. Data were tasted with Shapiro-Wilk followed by post hoc tamhane’s test and found a significant differences.
