Abstract

Breast cancer is a disease in which changes and uncontrolled cell growth occurs in breast tissue originating from the lobules or ducts. In breast cancer, neutrophilia can occur followed by lymphocytopenia which increases the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Increased NLR has been associated with the development of cancer. This study aims to determine the correlation between neutrophil lymphocyte ratio and breast cancer stages based on the eighth edition American Joint Committee on Cancer at DR. H. Abdul Moeloek hospital, Lampung Province. This research methodology employed is  descriptive analytical with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique using a consecutive sampling technique. The data analysis used was the spearman correlation test. The results revealed that breast cancer patients were divided into two groups: early-stage and advanced-stage, with 22 patients (35.5%) in the early stage and 40 patients(64.5%) in the advanced stage. The median (minimum-maximum) NLR value of breast cancer patients was 3.17 (1.37-14.67). Statistical analysis showed a significant correlation between NLR and breast cancer stage, with a p-value of 0.004 and a correlation coefficient (r) of r = 0.357, which means that the direction of the correlation is positive with the strength of the correlation is weak. In conclution, there is a correlation between neutrophil lymphocyte ratio and breast cancer stages based on the eighth edition American Joint Committee on Cancer at DR. H. Abdul Moeloek hospital, Lampung Province.
